Is CNG Worth It?

Is CNG Worth It?

There are many advantages to CNG, and under the right circumstances it can save you a boatload of money. Everyone’s situation is different however, and while I would love to say that a bi-fuel system is always the right decision… it may not be right for you.

How do I know if CNG is right for me?

There is a lot to consider when making this decision. We’ll start with a few things that could hold you back:

You drive your car less than 200 miles a month.  No one wants to wait ten years to see a return on their investment. So if you don’t drive your car enough to save 3K+ within a year or two, it may not be worth it.

You don’t drive near a CNG station  Your car may be capable of running on fuel that costs a buck sixty. But that won’t do you much good if you can’t ever fill it.

You have doubts your vehicle will last more than a year If your car is falling apart, and/or you plan on driving it off a cliff… CNG probably isn’t worth it.

You don’t have the cargo space for it  If you drive this, CNG is probably a no-go.

Is CNG worth it? Not if you drive this.

You hate saving money  If you have just won the lottery, and you are determined to spend as much money, as fast as you can.. don’t convert your vehicle to run on natural gas.

If none of that sounded like your situation, There is a good chance natural gas is right for you. Now here are a few things to look for, that will let you know that CNG will work for you.

You enjoy saving money As much fun as it is to spend hundreds of dollars a month on gasoline… If you would prefer to spend your money elsewhere, then natural gas may be a good decision.

Your car gets terrible gas mileage – By terrible, we mean anything less than 125 mpg. The worse your mpg’s though, the faster you’ll earn your money back. Maybe that H3 wasn’t such a bad idea after all!

You’re willing to sacrifice a bit of cargo space – Truthfully, this can be a deal breaker. You just have to ask yourself if saving $2K a year, or more, is worth 5 cubic feet of cargo space.

You drive a lot Or, at least a moderate amount.

You want to support sustainable, American fuels If your family owns an oil drilling company in Saudi Arabia, keep your family ties in tact. Buy gasoline.

You want to keep Utah’s air clean At up to 95% less emissions, you are definitely doing your part to keep our air clean.

You want a longer range Having a bi-fuel vehicle means that you have a CNG tank, along with your regular gasoline tank. Effectively increasing your time between pumps.

And the list goes on…..

After considering these factors you should be well on your way to deciding whether or not Natural Gas is worth it for you. I can tell you all day long why it is worth it for me, but you’re situation is different. If CNG is a good decision for you however, we are here to help you every step of the way.
